One Step Sparring Techniques

One step sparring is the foundation of self defence, as you get higher in grade your technique will improve with more power and accuracy. It is important when defending, that you know exactly were your technique is attacking your apponent, the following one step techniques are a part of our school curriculum, they are affective in real life situations, there are no fancy high spinning kicks. The moves are direct and explosive.

Below is the procedure for one step sparring with curriculumn movements, a video will shortly be added with all one step movements from white belt to black belt.

Procedure

  1. Attacker and defender face each other in attention stance and bow
  2. Both go into ready stance
  3. The attacker steps right leg back into walking stance with a low section outer forearm block and yells kihap
  4. The the defender yells kihap
  5. The attacker then executes a face level front punch in a right walking stance,
  6. The defender then counter attacks yelling kihap
  7. After the attack is finished, both attacker and defender return to a ready stance, then the same procedure is repeated from a left side attack.

It is very important that both the attacker and defender execute with full power and controlled agression.

 

Novice Level - (White, Yellow and Orange Belt)

  1. Sitting stance outer knifehand block, front punch.

  3. Step back L stance outer foream block, back fist strike.

  4. Avoid step, Low Section side kick.

Intermediate Level - (Green - Blue - Purple Belt)

  1. L stance knifehand block, double knifehand strike.

Black Belt Advanced Level

  1. Move right leg avoiding attack into a walking stance with a left hand outer forearm block, Stay in position and execute an elbow strike with left arm, step through and execute a hammer fist strike to groin.

  2. Move left leg avoiding the attack into sitting stance, perform arm lock with both arms moving the opponents body downwards exposing the back and execute a punch to the kidney area.

  3. Step backward and block the attack with a knifehand rising block, grab opponents wrist, step underneath opponents arm and perform a front kick to face, following up with a knifehand strike to tricep.

  4. Step to the right avoiding attack, execute front pushing kick with left leg to opponents arm, front kick to groin, follow up with right arm elbow strike to face.

  5. Avoid to the left, perform front pushing kick with right leg to attackers arm, perform turning kick to back of leg, following up with a punch to rib cage.

  6. Step back avoid with left leg, perform left leg inward cresent kick to opponents arm, low section spinning heel kick with right left, follow up with knifehand strike to back of neck.
